In February, 2007 my sister and I hiked out to see the Ice Caves. We left from the same place that the kayaks launch from in the summer. Instead of paddling, we walked to see the amazing sights caused by the waves and the weather. It was a bit unnerving to hear the ice moving and cracking as we walked on it. As you can see, it was worth the adventure getting there! It sure is interesting to see the same caves in different seasons.
You need to contact the National Park Service to be sure the ice is thick enough to walk on.

Kayaking Sea Caves
After years of wanting to kayak around the sea caves on Lake Superior, a friend called me yesterday, claiming it would be a perfect day to go! I cleared my schedule, and we set off in the afternoon.
We drove about 90 minutes to the landing site near Cornucopia, Wisconsin.
The sky was clear and the wind was calm, however the wind picked up and there were a few ripples when we started out on the water. About half way through, we stopped in a cave for a bit and got out of the kayaks to take some photos. We were on the water for over three hours.
On the way back, we wound our way along the shore in and out of caves that sometimes were so low we could touch them!
As evening approached, the water was absolutely calm. We were treated to a beautiful sunset as we loaded the kayaks. Got home late, but it was a fabulous day!
